As you read this I am still working on discovering my purpose in life, why I am here. However I do have a few major goals that are driving me in the meantime. You will notice that most of them are taking me up to my 55th birthday. I intend this to be a major stage in my life where I will be in a position to make certain decisions that will ensure that I enjoy the second half of life and make a positive difference in the world at the same time.
A major physical goal for me is to ascend Mount Everest in my 55th year. This means that I will reach the peak of Everest between 11th august 2013 and 10th august 2014. To that end my goal is to push myself on an on-going basis with the intention of increasing my potential for reaching the summit.
I have already ascended Kilimanjaro and completed the Marathon Des Sables. In February / March 2007 I will ascend Mount Acongagua in Argentina, the highest mountain in the world outside of the Himalayas. In April 2008 I will again complete the Marathon Des Sables in less than 48 hours.
When the opportunity arises I will run the Great Wall of China 100k challenge. In addition I will continue to search out and test myself with some of the most testing physical challenges in the world.
This will ensure that as well as maintaining and enhancing a level of physical fitness that will ensure the success of my Everest challenge I will also, and just as importantly, enjoy the experience.
It is still a major goal of mine to produce and have accepted a book or other form of media that will be given to every secondary school student on their first day at senior school. The book (media) will be intended as a support tool for the student throughout their career in education and perhaps beyond. Funding for this project will come from the corporate world. The major challenge I see with this goal is the resistance I will receive from education authorities afraid of what independent thinking young people might be capable of.
To accompany the book I will produce a key note presentation and deliver it to as many young people as possible with the goal of uniting them against accepting less than they are capable of. Mediocrity must be a thing of the past. If young people are taught to accept themselves as magnificent they will be more ready to do so for their peers. This will unite them against a world that bullies, stereotypes and generalises them. In the words of Johnny Cash
"I solemnly swear that it will be their way . . . "
Let me be clear here. I believe that money is important. If I achieve the level of financial security that I have set myself for august 11th 2013 I will have a life filled with choice. Some of those choices will include the success of the major goals above. If my bills are paid I can work with more of the young people who are represented by authorities who would prefer to spend money on administration than releasing their magnificence. So come on you corporates, hire me for your teams now and you will be sponsoring the future of this magnificent country of ours.
My major financial goals can be summed up in one word...choice. I will be in a position on 11th august 2013 to enable me to sit down in 'paradise' and make some serious choices about where I will go and what I will do with the second half of my life. I don’t want to hazard a guess at what those choices will be right now. They will be my choices though.
On the day that I finally leave this planet it will be said that
"Clive Gott has gone.
The world is a better place for having him visit.
We are glad that he came."
